Announcments

THE WELS COMMISSION on Lutheran Schools consulting team will be here Oct 9-11.   As part of their service, they would like to speak with 2 focus groups made up of a cross section of the congregation.   Men and women, old and young, have sent your children to our school or not.   We are looking for 30-40 people to meet with the team when they are here.   Exact times are not yet available but I assume we will have at least one mid-day meeting and one evening meeting.  If you have any questions, or would be willing to take an hour or so out of your schedule to help the team assess our congregation and school, please speak with Pastor or with Norm Schlicker (248-930-7735).

ELDERS SEEKING FEEDBACK   Considering moving the Sunday School service to the Sunday before Christmas, either in place of the morning worship service or as an additional service in the afternoon/evening. We would still hold a Christmas Eve service, but it would be a lessons and carols service. Please speak to Bob Briggs, Steve Houser, Victor Domke, or Pastor Dey with your thoughts, questions, or concerns.

THURSDAY EVENING BIBLE STUDY RETURNS  This past Thursday, in the Fellowship Hall, Pastor Dey began a new Bible Study titled "In the House of the Lord." Based on the historic parts of Christian worship, this study is intended for those new to the faith or looking for a refresher on what they believe. Got a friend interested in church, but they aren't sure about Sunday worship? Know someone who hasn't been to church in a while? This will be a great class for them!

NEW BIBLE STUDY OPPORTUNITY COMING SOON!
A new coffee shop is opening just down the street from our church (725 W Grand River Avenue, between Cancun and Sunnyside Cafe at the old Biggby Coffee location). Pastor Dey would like to begin hosting a weekly weekday morning bible book club there once they open. Want to grow in your faith, connect with fellow Christians, and enjoy a good cup of coffee while supporting a local business?  Then this is the opportunity for you! Those interested should speak with Pastor Dey.

CHILI AND SOUP COOKOFF
Ladies Fellowship is excited to share a new fundraiser for our mission work. Through annual fundraisers, each year we can support a World mission, US mission and local mission needs. Last year we held a district wide baby shower to benefit the Pregnancy Care Center in Saginaw and they were delighted with the “gifts” donated. We have also supported the Crossing Bridges Program at Palabra de Vida, US churches affected by weather and many World Missions, including Malawi, Pastoral Studies Institute and Native American Missions.
So, now we have decided to enlist the skills of our congregation. We are hosting a Chii or Soup cookoff! You can enter your favorite chili or soup (with a list of ingredients and spice) and see who ends up in 1st place, 2nd place or 3rd place! Those who wish to sample and vote, we will have sample cups for you to use. An alternative children’s meal will be available.
If you would like to participate, but don’t want to make a crockpot full, there is a sign up sheet to bring fixings for both the chilis or side dishes.
It is a free will offering (suggested $5, $3 for children’s meal). Please see the sign up sheet and hope to see you after the service on October 18th!
TRUNK OR TREAT
Our annual Trunk or Treat event takes place in the church parking lot on October 24th from 2-4pm. This coordinates with downtown’s hours. Please sign up if you wish to open your trunk to the pumpkins, princesses, firefighters or Spiderman’s who visit. The goal is to have around 10 cars.
We would like to offer refreshments for both the big and littles. There will be a sign up sheet for volunteering to provide and/or serve.
Clean out that trunk, bake up some brownies and enjoy an afternoon of sweater weather and a bunch of characters!
